OR...
"Hey guys. What are you doin' guys?"
"Are you cold chickie? Be right back, chickie. Coat, gloves, hat..."
Di Di brought Easter window clings & Lily went to touch a chick on the sliding glass door. It was a chilly day & the door was cold, so she was just a little concerned about the chick.
"How bout right here?"
Lily sure knows how to melt our hearts. This is one of her favorite games (ours too). She puckers her lips & sticks her mouth between 2 bars in her crib for a kiss (or the fort on the swingset-- see the photo of Daddy & Lily in "joys of grandparenting")... then giggles & moves to another spot "how bout right here?"... and the game continues. :)
"It's an octagon, Momma!"
And she was right. :)
"Jack is beautiful."
She was referring to one of those capsules you drop in water that dissolve to reveal a mystery item. Jack was the name Lily gave to a little boy sponge.
"Hmmm.... let's see."
"Lily Faye Stevens, Fisher Dene Stevens, Momma Stevens & Daddy Stevens."
Lily's answer to the question "who is in your family?"
"When the sunshine comes up."
This is actually something we tell her when she goes to bed at night ("see you when the sunshine comes up"). It's really cute to hear her say this to us in her sweet little voice.
"Go SHOPPING!"
We have Di Di to thank for this one. "Go shopping" has helped avoid many potential tantrums over eating the last bite of some of her favorite foods. Our Lily loves to eat.
Here's how it goes...
Lily: "More blueberries!" (yes, she should say please & we are working on that)
Us: "The blueberries are all gone. What should we do?"
Lily: "Goooo SHOPPING!" (with a smile)
"Nice!"
"Probably"
"Or..."
We offer a suggestion & she offers another or goes searching for one.
Me: "Lily, would you like some cheese?"
Lily: "Or... GOLDFISH!"
Another example...
Scotty: "Would you like to read Hop on Pop?"
Lily: "Or..."
Scotty: "Clip-Clop?"
Lily: "Or...."
Scotty: "Flap your Wings?"
Lily: "Or..."
Scotty: "Spot Goes to the Park?"
Lily: "That's the one!"
"Wonderful!"
" 'Hug'... good choice!"
We were reading & I pulled the book "Hug" to read. I guess Lily was pleased.
"It's a garden!"
One morning I was getting Lily dressed & put on a new shirt. It was covered in flowers & she tapped her shirt & proudly said, "it's a garden!" I was a little stunned & didn't immediately respond, so she then said "it has flowers on it." I said, "no, you're right. It is a garden." :)
"Weee! I'm swinging like a cow!"
Your guess is as good as mine.
"Oh... Mickey Ears!"
Lily had arranged the Cheerios on her tray into Mickey's face/ears. She has a wonderful imagination. We have a red plastic magnet hook & Lily calls it Clifford. I guess this is because it is red & the hook looks like a tail! She also identifies creatures in the knots of our wood floors/cabinets. One day she said, "look, Momma... it's a doggy," & pointed to 3 knots arranged like 2 eyes & a nose.
"It's my favorite!"
"Fisher Dene, what is it buddy?"
Hilarious. Fisher was fussy & she leaned over him to check things out. I guess she learned this phrase from us. :)
"Oh brother, clouds!"
Not so sure about this one. We were driving in the car & this is what I heard from the backseat.
"Shall we change your diaper, lambie? It's gonna be really quick!"
What a good little mother. She leaned over the stuffed lamb, gently explained what was about to happen & then gave a kiss.
"Some prize."
(surprise)
"Momma got about it."
(Momma forgot about it)... happens a lot these days!
"Oh, butterfingers!"
Lily was having buttered toast for breakfast. Her cup slipped out of her hands. This is what she said after examining her buttery hands.

JOYS OF GRANDPARENTING
my new favorite book ....."joys of grandparenting"
favorite chapter so far....."big sister ..little brother"
ok..lily's name became "di di's shnooky" and her musical request each day was "di di's song..."
"i wanna see you sweet sweet smile everyday"
to have her recognize me ...run to me with open arms...lay on me while i made up stories...
OH MY DEAR LORD ...thankyou for these blessings
holding fisher...i was 27 again...holding baby scotty (only 3 oz lighter)
thee absolute miracle of seeing that healthy...handsome..cutest in everyway little boy...there are no words!!!!
just like scotty ..he sleeps long...nurses like a champ...and with lily playing and laughing nearby....just takes it all in
no tip toeing necessary...and having all of lily's newborn swings and things makes it easier to put him down
(after an hour of kissing and nuzzling and smelling him)
back here in florida...ok... the windows are open and there is the riverview.....
but i would rather be looking out at the new swingset or mickey and minnie chalked on the driveway
i miss sarah and scotty...watching them parenting and loving our grandbabies with every ounce of love in their hearts..
oh..how blessed and happy to know that... that house on red cedar rd holds more joy and love and laughter then all the houses in CT
more incredible chapters coming soon...
with love di di
